Johnson & Johnson to build Billion Dollar, 420 Job Manufacturing Facility in Wilson

Johnson & Johnson is considering a major economic investment in Wilson, North Carolina, with a potential $1 billion manufacturing facility on the horizon. The project, dubbed “Project Harbor,” could create 420 new jobs by 2031, with an impressive average annual wage of $108,823—more than double the city’s median household income. The Wilson County Board of Commissioners is expected to meet soon to discuss approving nearly $50 million in incentives to attract the investment. Half of this incentive package would come from Wilson County, with the other half from the City of Wilson.

While Johnson & Johnson has not officially confirmed its involvement, the company has been making notable investments across North Carolina, particularly in the Triangle region. The Janssen Supply Group, a division of Johnson & Johnson, has recently expanded into a large manufacturing suite at Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies’ $2 billion facility in Holly Springs. This growing presence reflects Johnson & Johnson’s commitment to advancing its operations in the region.

Wilson, historically known for its tobacco industry, has quickly transformed into a rising manufacturing hub. Recent investments from major corporations like Reckitt Benckiser Group and IDEXX Laboratories have further cemented Wilson’s position as a key industrial player. These companies are set to bring hundreds of new jobs to the area, offering competitive wages, and Johnson & Johnson’s potential investment would further fuel this economic boom, solidifying the city’s future as a leader in manufacturing.
