Downtown Raleigh Alliance publishes an annual State of Downtown Raleigh report. See the report here.
I look forward to this report every year. They do a great job pulling together economic, demographic, and development data and presenting it in a dynamic visual manner. Looking at these data-driven graphics makes me excited about Raleigh and where it’s going.
The whole report is worth looking at, but here are a few things that stood out to me this year:
- The planned/proposed development is incredibly strong, as usual – see the graphic on pages 6-7.
- I’m really happy to see so much planned/proposed in the Warehouse District and the Fayetteville District. In general, the South side has been underdeveloped, and the Glenwood District continues to recover from the pandemic well.
- I’m glad they’ve published a strategic plan. There’s work to be done, and whether you agree or disagree with the elements, a plan at least gives a starting point for discussion, and moves the effort forward.
- Significant continued residential development ongoing and planned. Glenwood South’s rebound has been helped immensely by it’s residential density. The Fayetteville District still has restaurants and bars with limited hours. More residents should help retail, restaurants, and bars.
- Impressive tourism numbers. I didn’t realize that Raleigh was a destination until I moved here. I’ve been visiting for years, but thought maybe I was an outlier!
